LAS VEGAS – The Aces continued reshuffling their roster midseason on Wednesday by signing Ta’Niya Latson, the 2026 WNBA Draft second-round pick, to a Development Player contract. Latson, a former South Carolina Gamecock, was selected 20th overall by the Los Angeles Sparks in the spring draft before being waived earlier this week. Standing 5-foot-8, the guard appeared in 10 games for the Sparks, averaging 1.8 points and 1.0 rebounds per contest in limited minutes.
This move follows the Aces’ decision to part ways with veteran guard Chennedy Carter on Tuesday. In a corresponding move, Vegas added rookie wing Justine Pissott from the Indiana Fever for the remainder of the season. Pissott brings size (6-foot-4), outside shooting, and versatility to the roster, but Latson’s skill set is viewed as a more natural fit to replace Carter in the short term and deliver playmaking and scoring off the bench.
Latson established herself as a scorer during her college career. She averaged an impressive 22.6 points per game over three seasons at Florida State, including a standout 25.2 points per game as a junior, before transferring to South Carolina. With the Gamecocks, she averaged 14.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game, starting all 35 contests and helping the team reach the NCAA National Championship game. Her impact extended beyond the box score; she consistently demonstrated the ability to contribute when given double-digit minutes.
In the Sparks’ colors, Latson flashed promise early in her time in the league. She delivered a strong preseason showing against Nigeria, recording 7 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and a block across 22 minutes. She followed that with another 7-point outing against Portland to close out the preseason. Latson’s best regular-season performance to date came on June 16 against Minnesota, when she tallied 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists.
The precise roles Latson and Pissott will assume with the Aces remain to be seen, but their addition clearly signals a shift toward younger, more dynamic depth on the roster. The club already features its own 6-foot-4 rookie forward Janiah Barker, who has yet to make her WNBA debut due to injury, creating a young core alongside Latson and Pissott as the Aces navigate the remainder of the season.
Las Vegas will be looking to maximize the new combination of players as they push for continued success in a competitive Western Conference. Latson’s transition to the Aces provides an opportunity for development and potential immediate contributions, particularly in guard rotation and secondary scoring. Pissott’s perimeter shooting and length add another dimension to the lineup, giving head coach Becky Hammon more options to deploy across multiple lineups. As the season unfolds, the dynamic between Latson, Pissott, Barker, and the rest of the roster will shape how Vegas approaches important late-season games and potential playoff push.
