Coco Gauff is bidding to reach her first Wimbledon final as she prepared to face Karolina Muchova in Thursday’s semi-finals, with the Championships poised to crown a first-time winner once again. Gauff, a two-time major champion who first announced her arrival at Wimbledon in 2019 by reaching the fourth round on debut at just 15, has since needed six additional attempts to progress beyond the last 16. She finally broke through by defeating the fourth seed Jessica Pegula in three sets in the quarter-finals on Tuesday, signaling that she is ready to challenge for the title on the most prestigious grass-court stage.
Now 22, Gauff has won four deciding-set matches in a row, a run that will be put to the test by Muchova, the 10th seed known for her creative shot-making and all-court versatility. Muchova reached the semi-finals by eliminating Naomi Osaka in straight sets, and she will be chasing her first Wimbledon final and a second Grand Slam final after her French Open run in 2023. After injuries followed that Roland Garros success, including wrist surgery at the start of the 2024 season, Muchova has returned to peak form and aims to claim the biggest title of her career.
The two players will meet in the opening women’s semi-final on Thursday, with Centre Court set to host their clash after 1:30pm BST (8:30am ET). They will be followed by the second semi-final between Czech ninth seed Linda Noskova and Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk, both reaching Wimbledon semi-finals for the first time. The day’s schedule on Centre Court reads: Muchova vs Gauff at 1:30pm, then Kostyuk vs Noskova, followed by the doubles match featuring Marc Polmans and Storm Hunter versus Marcelo Arevalo and Jelena Ostapenko.
In the UK, all Wimbledon matches are streamed live on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website, with coverage across all 18 courts. In the United States, ESPN and Tennis Channel hold the rights. The Thursday schedule will also be available in full on BBC Two, BBC One, iPlayer, and the BBC Sport website and app, with live coverage spanning the afternoon into the early evening.
Gauff leads Muchova 6-1 in their head-to-head, though Muchova did beat her on clay in Stuttgart this year. This will be their fourth meeting of the season, with Gauff winning the Australian Open fourth round and Miami Open semi-finals on hard courts. All six of Gauff’s wins against Muchova have come on hard court, and this will be their first-ever clash on grass. Muchova will be seeking to overturn the recent trend in their matchups as she bids to derail Gauff’s Wimbledon bid and cushion her own Grand Slam legacy.
Coco Gauff arrived in the Wimbledon quarter-finals with a straight-set victory over Belinda Bencic, after earlier round wins against Tamara Korpatsch, Solana Sierra, and Clare Liu. Her path to the semi-finals highlighted her resilience and big-game ability, culminating in a last-16 victory that saw her topple a top-5 opponent and cement her status as a genuine title contender on the lawns of the All England Club. With her aggressive baseline game, superb movement, and clutch serving, Gauff will be aiming to maintain the momentum she has built across the tournament as she seeks to reach her first Wimbledon final and perhaps claim a maiden grass-court Grand Slam.
