Predicting where the top remaining NBA free agents will sign

NBA free agency has cooled off a bit, but a handful of marquee names are still jockeying for the perfect fit and the right terms. While most contenders have already made their splash, there are several teams with glaring holes that still need to be addressed. With the top free agent and a few others undecided about their destinations this off-season, there remains plenty of work left to do. These three remaining free agents could end up being the final pieces that define the 2026-27 season.
Philadelphia stands out as the most logical landing spot if LeBron James is serious about chasing another championship. The 76ers have already had one of the best offseasons in the league and still have an opening at power forward—the exact position James plays. He wouldn’t be forced to shoulder the entire offensive load every night alongside Jaylen Brown and Tyrese Maxey, allowing LeBron to do what he does best: elevate everyone around him. A move to Philadelphia would keep him in a major market and likely give him his best shot at one last title.
Don’t count out Golden State or Minnesota, though. Pairing LeBron with Stephen Curry would be a storybook ending to a long-standing, on-court rivalry. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves have quietly assembled one of the deepest rosters in basketball this offseason and are still searching for a starting-caliber power forward.
In Miami, post-Giannis trade, the Heat are in dire need of backcourt scoring. DeMar DeRozan would immediately address that gap. They have lost several guards and other offensive pieces this offseason, and they’re missing a dependable shot creator who can score at will. DeRozan may not be in his prime, but he remains a relentless threat to the rim and one of the league’s most reliable mid-range scorers. He would relieve pressure on Miami’s frontcourt while injecting a seasoned veteran into the offense. Pairing DeRozan with Giannis and Bam Adebayo would transform the outlook for their offseason and significantly bolster their scoring punch.
Jonathan Kuminga remains one of the season’s most compelling free-agent conversations. His talent has long been evident, but consistency has alternated with flashes of brilliance. The Los Angeles Lakers have already reshaped their roster after the departure of LeBron James, and adding Kuminga could further augment an already impressive summer haul. Kuminga represents a low-risk, high-reward option: he would fill the power-forward role with the kind of athleticism on both ends of the floor that teams crave, and there is ample room for him to grow. If he fully taps into his potential, Kuminga could prove to be one of the savvier moves of the entire free-agent class.
