GB’s Patten and Heliovaara reach Wimbledon final

Great Britain’s Henry Patten and his Finnish partner Harri Heliovaara have reached their second Wimbledon men’s doubles final in three years. The world No. 1 duo, who were champions at the All England Club in 2024, kept their bid to reclaim the title alive by defeating American Aleksandar Kovacevic and Australia’s Thanasi Kokkinakis 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (10-8). This victory extended their impressive run in tie-breaks this fortnight, as they have won six of the seven tie-breaks they have contested, including two 10-point deciders in their three preceding rounds.
Although they began playing together in 2024, Patten and Heliovaara now eye a third Grand Slam title in as many years, following their Australian Open triumph in 2025. They will meet Marcelo Arevalo of El Salvador and Mate Pavic of Croatia in Saturday’s final, the pair who defeated them in the Queen’s Club showpiece last month.
“It feels great. There are big emotions—joy, relief, happiness, all of those things. It’s what you dream of doing. We’re a bit tired, but we’re over the moon,” Patten told BBC TV. On returning to the Wimbledon final, he added: “I expect we’ll still be quite nervous. There’s no getting away from that—the final at Wimbledon on Centre Court. It’s a unique feeling. The butterflies will definitely be there.”
Arevalo and Pavic had earlier knocked out Britain’s defending champions, Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool, on Wednesday. Arevalo, a two-time French Open doubles winner, and Pavic, who has captured all four majors including Wimbledon in 2021, faced Patten and Heliovaara at Queen’s three weeks ago and won 6-2 6-4. They now stand between Patten and Heliovaara and a potential third major title in as many years.
