Logan Webb Takes Responsibility Following Giants’ 10-0 Defeat

By admin — In News — July 10, 2026

Following the San Francisco Giants’ 10-0 defeat to the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday, Logan Webb refused to search for excuses. After settling down following a rough first inning, the Giants’ ace focused on the final result rather than any positives from his performance. “Not good,” Webb said when asked to assess how he pitched. “We lost the game, right? I put our team in a hole 5-0 in the first inning. It’s not very good.”
Webb attributed the early onslaught to a mix of well-placed hits and a few pitches he would like to have back, noting that some balls simply found openings while others came from mistakes Toronto capitalized on. Rather than lamenting bad luck, he stressed that his job is to minimize damage when things start to unravel. “I’ve got to be able to keep it from spiraling in the first inning and at least keep us in the game,” he said.
He also dismissed comparisons between Wednesday’s performance and his prior start against the Colorado Rockies on July 3, arguing the two outings unfolded very differently. He explained that this game largely hinged on a tough first inning before he found his rhythm, whereas the Coors Field outing presented a separate set of challenges. Although the right-hander acknowledged there were pitches he would like back, he didn’t believe the two starts were connected beyond the disappointing results. With the Giants continuing to struggle, Webb conceded that the clubhouse atmosphere has grown increasingly frustrating. “The feeling’s not very good,” he said when asked about the team’s recent skid.
Beyond breaking down the loss, Webb reflected on former teammate Justin Verlander’s announcement that he plans to retire after the season. Webb spoke warmly about the future Hall of Famer, calling him one of the greatest pitchers of his generation and expressing gratitude for the chance to share a clubhouse with him. “I think he’s one of the greatest pitchers of all time,” Webb said. He added that learning from Verlander has been invaluable and that they still stay in touch.
“I still text him all the time,” Webb said. He hopes Verlander can return healthy before the season ends and finish a storied career on a strong note. Webb also looks forward to celebrating Verlander’s career in Philadelphia during next week’s 2026 MLB All-Star Game, describing Verlander as a fierce competitor and “a bulldog” whose work ethic and approach have left a lasting impression.
