Parkway High School alumnus hosts free youth football camp

By admin — In News — July 10, 2026

A Parkway High School alumnus is organizing a free football camp for young athletes in kindergarten through eighth grade. The inaugural Ronnie Coker Memorial Football Camp with Barrett Newman is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cypress 3:16 Field House, located at 4703 Palmetto Road in Benton, Louisiana. The event is being hosted by Newman’s Low Key Charitable Foundation, which aims to teach the fundamentals of football while fostering confidence and providing young athletes with positive role models to look up to.
Newman, who previously played for Northwestern State University before transferring to Delta State University, will be joined by current college athletes who will help with skill development stations, football drills, and mentorship during the camp. The gathering also serves as a tribute to Ronnie Coker, a prominent figure in the local athletic community who passed away in 2023 after battling cancer. Coker dedicated his career to Parkway High School as a baseball coach and to Airline High School as an athletic director, and he is remembered as a longtime member of the Louisiana Coaches Hall of Fame for his contributions to youth sports and education.
Registration for the Ronnie Coker Memorial Football Camp is limited to the first 175 participants, and organizers encourage interested families to sign up early online to secure a spot. In addition to the camp activities, attendees can expect a day focused on fundamentals, teamwork, and mentorship, with an emphasis on safety and enjoyment of the sport.
This event comes at a time when youth football programs across the region are looking for affordable, accessible opportunities to develop athletic skills while reinforcing values such as discipline, perseverance, and teamwork. The camp will provide a structured environment where young players can learn from experienced coaches and college athletes who understand the importance of building confidence both on and off the field.
For those seeking more information or wishing to register, neighbors and families can visit the event’s online registration page or contact the organizers directly through the Low Key Charitable Foundation’s official channels. The camp’s location at Cypress 3:16 Field House offers a convenient venue with ample space for drills, stations, and interactive activities designed to engage participants from kindergarten through eighth grade.
As the community remembers Ronnie Coker’s legacy, the camp serves not only as a skill-building opportunity for aspiring football players but also as a commemorative event that highlights the impact of mentors, coaches, and positive role models in shaping the lives of young athletes. The event organizers hope to foster a lasting tradition that future generations can carry forward, continuing to honor Ronnie Coker’s dedication to youth sports, education, and community service.
If you’re interested in supporting or participating in the Ronnie Coker Memorial Football Camp, stay tuned to local school announcements and the Low Key Charitable Foundation’s updates for registration details, schedules, and eligibility requirements. This family-friendly, community-driven event is designed to provide a fun and educational experience for children while reinforcing the values that football can teach—teamwork, resilience, and respect for one’s teammates and coaches.
