Nathan Fleenor was approved as Harrison High School’s next athletic director at the EVSC School Board Meeting on July 6. He will continue in his current role as the Warriors’ head boys basketball coach, a position he has held since 2016. This appointment follows Sara Loete’s approval as athletic director in May; Loete has since accepted a new role as the EVSC’s director of student conduct and safety.
Fleenor has long been a part of the Harrison community, joining the school in 2003 to teach social studies. His involvement in athletics is extensive; he has served as an assistant coach for the softball, baseball, and basketball programs, dedicating the majority of his time to those duties. As Harrison’s head coach, Fleenor guided the Warriors during the 2025 IHSAA Class 4A Boys Basketball semifinals at Harrison High School, a moment that underscored his deep ties to the school and its students.
Over the years, Fleenor has connected with staff, students, and parents, gaining valuable insights from each encounter. He intends to translate those experiences into his new role, saying he has learned from numerous great coaches, athletic directors, and administrators. “I love everything about the Harrison community. This is something I’ve always wanted to do. I’m excited about being able to do that and continue coaching basketball,” he noted. Fleenor emphasized that this opportunity is one he has prepared for over time, and he looks forward to strengthening his relationship with the Harrison community while guiding the athletic programs in a positive direction.
For Fleenor, building and sustaining relationships is central. He believes that fostering connections is essential to success and views this new position as a chance to enhance those ties on a larger scale. He recalled the strong foundation set by past athletic directors who emphasized collaboration with coaches, noting that learning from one another is a core part of his philosophy. “We’ve had some really good athletic directors over the years who have built relationships and worked well with coaches,” he said. “When I started coaching, there were coaches who were great to learn from. That’s what it’s about—learning from each other and building those relationships.”
Fleenor envisions a culture of camaraderie and unity among Harrison’s student-athletes. He hopes to strengthen the alignment between Harrison’s feeder programs and the high school, ensuring that the Warrior identity is clearly understood and embraced at every level. While juggling responsibilities as both athletic director and basketball coach, he plans to keep this guiding principle at the forefront: to cultivate an environment that produces successful, well-rounded representatives for Harrison in the present and for the future.
“I’d like to see a sense of togetherness across our programs, with a clear understanding of what it means to be a Warrior,” Fleenor said. “I want our feeder programs to have a stronger sense of Harrison’s culture and expectations, so the transition for athletes moving up to high school is seamless and supported.”
As he steps into this broader leadership role, Fleenor aims to maintain the high standards Harrison has set in athletics while continuing to coach basketball with the same passion and commitment that earned him the respect of players, colleagues, and parents alike. He remains focused on building durable relationships, fostering collaboration, and guiding Harrison’s athletic programs toward sustained success.
