Diant Ramaj prepared to leave Borussia Dortmund

After turning out for Heidenheim in 2025/26 for 31 of the 34 Bundesliga fixtures, Diant Ramaj, aged 24, has returned to Borussia Dortmund with aspirations of leaving to secure a first-choice goalkeeper role elsewhere. A Bild report indicates that Ramaj is actively seeking a move to become a regular starter, and negotiations have already begun, though there are no solid offers on the table yet. Dortmund, meanwhile, are open to letting him move on, provided a suitable deal emerges.
Dortmund also have plans regarding their other goalkeeping options. Alexander Meyer, 35, and Patrick Drewes, 33, are currently in backup roles to Gregor Kobel, who is enjoying strong form at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and is central to Dortmund’s goalkeeping plans. Ramaj’s departure would help accommodate a scenario in which Kobel remains the undisputed number one, with Meyer and Drewes filling the understudy spots.
Ramaj joined Dortmund in February 2025 for a reported €5 million, with the hope of eventually succeeding Kobel as the first-choice keeper. While he did become a regular starter during his time on loan at Copenhagen and later at Heidenheim, the prospect of overtaking Kobel at Dortmund has proved elusive. The German club would presumably seek compensation for Ramaj’s exit given his position under contract until 2029. His current market value sits at around €7 million on Transfermarkt, according to standard appraisal metrics.
The situation remains fluid as Dortmund weigh their options. Ramaj’s goal is clear: to take the number one spot somewhere, even if that means departing Dortmund to pursue consistent starting opportunities. For Dortmund, the priority is balancing long-term planning with the immediate need to maintain a stable and dependable number one, while not closing the door on potential resale value or cover for unforeseen challenges. With Ramaj’s future still unsettled, both the player and the club are navigating a delicate negotiation landscape, and the outcome will hinge on whether a compelling offer aligns with Dortmund’s strategic interests and Ramaj’s ambitions for regular first-team football.
