Georgia QB commit has appeal to play his senior season denied

By admin — In News — July 10, 2026

Four-star Georgia Bulldogs quarterback commit Colton Nussmeier has had his request to play during his senior year denied after a 4-1 vote in a district meeting. The decision renders the Ryan High School quarterback in Denton, Texas ineligible for his final season at Ryan, following his recent transfer from Flower Mound Marcus High School. Nussmeier, who transferred to Ryan, will not be able to compete for Ryan during his senior year after the appeal was rejected.
The ruling against Nussmeier cited a transfer for athletic reasons, leading to the ineligibility. With the appeal denied, he is expected to consider options at other high schools that may have less restrictive transfer rules, allowing him to play and continue his development in his final year of high school football. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound quarterback is the younger brother of former LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and remains one of Georgia’s top commitments from the class of 2027. He has been committed to Georgia since June 5.
Losing the opportunity to play his senior season could hinder Nussmeier’s development, prompting speculation that he might transfer again to a different high school with more favorable eligibility rules. In the 247Sports rankings for the class of 2027, Nussmeier is listed as the No. 12 quarterback and the No. 199 overall recruit in the nation, with a standout ranking as the No. 34 prospect from Texas. The district’s 3-3 decision extended to the denial of Nussmeier’s appeal, a ruling that came alongside the denial of five-star Texas cornerback commitment John Meredith.
Ryan High School, renowned as one of Texas’ premier football programs, faces a significant setback with Nussmeier’s ineligibility. Losing a highly touted quarterback commitment and the potential impact on their roster and competitive trajectory underscores the broader implications of transfer policies on high school football in Texas.
