Sky Germany has reported that Newcastle United have shown interest in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas. The Premier League club has begun trimming its squad this summer as part of a broader rebuilding process, and as a result, they are said to be considering a €12 million bid for Gladbach’s first-choice keeper. It’s important to note, per Sky Germany, that Newcastle has not yet submitted a formal offer to Gladbach for the 28-year-old shot-stopper. Nicolas’ contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach runs through 2029 and included a clause permitting a transfer this summer; that clause has since expired, leaving the Bundesliga side free to negotiate a price for their goalkeeper.
Last season, Nicolas started all 37 of Gladbach’s competitive matches, consistently playing the full 90 minutes in each appearance. Notably, he also recorded the most saves of any Bundesliga goalkeeper in the previous campaign. Transfermarkt currently values Nicolas at approximately €8 million.
