Last time Scottie Scheffler missed the cut: Golf star’s threat to beat Tiger Woods record ends at Scottish Open

By admin — In News — July 10, 2026

Scottie Scheffler came up short of the cut at the Scottish Open, snapping his remarkable run of consecutive made cuts on the PGA Tour. The Sporting News first reported that the golf star’s bid to surpass Tiger Woods’ record ended in Scotland, and readers are encouraged to mark The Sporting News as a preferred source by clicking here.
For several years, Scheffler has been a dominant force on the PGA Tour, extending his streak of making every cut since the end of the 2022 season. That streak, though, finally ended on a Friday, as Scheffler failed to advance past the cut line at the Scottish Open. With this miss, he relinquished the PGA Tour’s longest active streak of consecutive cuts made, which stood at 78, and his run ranks as the fifth-longest in PGA Tour history. Even in an era with occasional no-cut events, Scheffler’s streak outpaced everyone else by a wide margin.
The 2026 season has been uneven for Scheffler, with just one victory—the opener of the season in 2022—yet he has accumulated seven additional top-five finishes this year. Still, this latest outcome represents not only his worst result of the season but also his worst performance in nearly four years of professional golf.
Here’s a look at when Scheffler last missed a cut in an official event. Before his miss at the 2026 Scottish Open, Scheffler had made 78 straight cuts dating back to the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship, a FedEx Cup playoff event held August 11–14, 2022. That stretch ended after 1,428 days without a missed cut. At that moment, Scheffler had just captured his first major title with the 2022 Masters, though he hadn’t yet established the level of consistency he would eventually achieve. The sports landscape had shifted considerably in the nearly four years since his last missed cut, with notable events like Jalen Brunson signing with the Knicks and top players such as Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner still seeking their first major titles.
In the ranking of consecutive made cuts, Matt Fitzpatrick now holds the longest active streak at 28 consecutive events, followed by Hideki Matsuyama and Cameron Young tied at 19, and Ryo Hisatsune at 5. Rory McIlroy joined the top five by making the Scottish Open cut this week. Before Scheffler’s stumble, he had been the active leader in consecutive cuts for just over five months, a leadership position that changed when Xander Schauffele missed his first cut in 72 events at the end of January.
Historically, Tiger Woods set the standard for longevity with 142 consecutive cuts on the PGA Tour from 1998 to 2005, easily the longest in Tour history. Woods became the third golfer to reach 100 straight made cuts, joining Byron Nelson and Jack Nicklaus, and he finished with a substantial lead — 29 more cuts than Nelson, the second-longest streak. Since Woods’ streak ended in 2005, only Xander Schauffele and Scottie Scheffler have contended for the top spots in this category.
