Former Heat teammates Adebayo, Herro involved in altercation on summer league practice court

LAS VEGAS — Moments after spending considerable time talking with South Florida media Friday about how his tenure with the Miami Heat will be remembered with warmth and appreciation, former Heat guard Tyler Herro was spotted leaving the Thomas & Mack Center with his girlfriend, offering only a terse, “My only comment is no comment.” The exit followed an interview with the team’s beat writers, during which word emerged of an earlier confrontation between Herro and former Heat teammate Bam Adebayo at a hotel that is currently serving as a practice facility for several teams during the Las Vegas NBA Summer League.
An NBA source confirmed to the Sun Sentinel that the incident occurred. Herro departed the arena quickly, exiting through a rear entrance that is typically used by players, with his companion by his side. ESPN reported that Adebayo and Herro were involved in a physical altercation in Las Vegas on Friday at a practice court inside a Las Vegas hotel. The incident apparently began when Adebayo confronted Herro about comments the guard had made criticizing the center on social media after their seven-year run in Miami had ended.
Following news of Herro’s trade to Milwaukee, Herro had posted on social media, listing a metric by which he claimed Adebayo ranked poorly, alongside other remarks from a private Herro chat regarding Adebayo’s offensive inefficiencies in the context of the maximum contract extension Adebayo received from the Heat—a three-year deal that begins this coming season.
The Athletic detailed the events, saying the incident occurred at a gym inside the Resorts World Casino in front of Herro’s AAU team. According to multiple anonymous witnesses, Adebayo walked onto the court, Herro said something to him, and Adebayo approached and punched him without hesitation. Herro’s AAU coach confronted Adebayo, and Herro yelled at his former teammate while security escorted them out. Both players left the scene on their own accord.
The Heat issued a brief statement: “We are aware, but not commenting.” When asked about his social media posts during his interview with two Heat beat writers, Herro said, “You’ve seen it,” and when pressed about how those posts should be interpreted, he replied, “I don’t know either. I don’t know either.” Adebayo has been working out with the Heat in Las Vegas, spending time with teammates Nikola Jovic, Davion Mitchell, and Bobby Portis, who joined the Heat in the trade that sent Herro away while also facilitating the move that brought Giannis Antetokounmpo to the franchise.
The Heat moved quickly to sign Adebayo to an extension as soon as he became eligible, choosing not to extend Herro during the initial extension window in October, and then trading Herro when a new extension window opened on July 1. As the summer league sessions continued, Adebayo maintained a visible presence with the team, while Herro’s departure from Miami marked a clear new chapter for both players amid the ongoing reshaping of the Heat roster.
