Arrests made in fan brawl after San Francisco Giants game at Oracle Park

   ​A melee erupted at Oracle Park in San Francisco after the San Francisco Giants faced the Colorado Rockies on Thursday, July 9. The disturbance occurred shortly after 9:45 p.m. Pacific Time as fans in the stands clashed. San Francisco police officers who were working the event responded to reports of a fight involving multiple individuals, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Several people were detained, and four individuals were arrested and booked into the San Francisco County Jail.
Video circulating on social media captured the brawl in the lower bowl of Oracle Park, showing attendees trading punches while nearby spectators attempted to intervene. The ages of those arrested ranged from 21 to 29. One person faced charges of assault and public intoxication, while the other three were arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and disturbing the peace.
In a statement given to the San Francisco Chronicle on Friday, July 10, a Giants spokesperson said that arrests were made after stadium security alerted police assigned to the ballpark. The team stated that everyone involved would be banned from the stadium.
On the field, the Giants defeated the Rockies 8-2 in what was the opening game of a four-game series that would wrap up the first half of the season. The series would continue with games on Friday night, Saturday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. PT, and Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. PT.
