New York Daily News | Gary Phillips: Much of the chatter coming out of Brian Cashman’s Thursday media session centered on Aaron Judge’s status and recovery from his rib injury. Cashman also highlighted the catcher position’s performance this season as an area that hasn’t quite met expectations. While he stressed that the Yankees aim to improve across the board rather than pinning all hopes on a single position, he conceded that catcher has become an unexpectedly troublesome area.
The Trentonian | Greg Johnson: During All-Star Game weekend, one staple event is the Futures Game, which showcases some of baseball’s top prospects. This year, the Yankees were slated to be represented by shortstop George Lombard Jr. and pitcher Carlos Lagrange. Both, however, were ruled out due to injuries. In their stead, New York will send pitcher Ben Grable, an 11th-round pick from Indiana last year who currently pitches for the Somerset Patriots. He isn’t high on the Yankees’ prospect depth chart, but he’s enjoying a solid 2026 campaign.
MLB.com | Byron Kerr: The Yankees delivered one of their stronger offensive performances in some time, scoring 12 runs in a victory over the Rays. A couple of Yankees credited a pregame speech from Jazz Chisholm Jr. for fueling the energy in that game. Jazz then played a pivotal role in yesterday’s win over the Nationals, marking a positive stretch for him over the past couple of days.
Netflix: Ben Rice’s competition in the 2026 Home Run Derby is set for Monday night. Assuming no late changes, he will face Junior Caminero of the Rays, Jac Caglianone of the Royals, Jordan Walker of the Cardinals, Munetaka Murakami of the White Sox, Willson Contreras of the Red Sox, and two Phillies hosts: Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper. Caminero and Schwarber were runners-up in 2025 and 2018, respectively, while Harper won in 2018, the last time he competed in the Derby with the Nationals. Rice will be aiming to become the fifth Yankee to win the event, joining Tino Martinez (1997), Jason Giambi (2002), Robinson Canó (2011), and Aaron Judge (2017).
MLB.com: The MLB Draft also unfolds this weekend, beginning later today. To put a date on time, consider that several notable names’ sons—Andy Pettitte, CC Sabathia, Jose Contreras, and other familiar baseball figures’ offspring—will be among this year’s draft selections. If you’re curious about who the Yankees might pick with their first selection (No. 35), consult Dan Kelly’s piece from yesterday for deeper insight and context. This is all part of a broader conversation about talent acquisition and organizational depth as the draft kicks off.
