Texas A&M’s 2026 schedule isn’t officially labeled the nation’s toughest, but it still presents a demanding slate compared with last season. The Aggies will once again face LSU and Missouri on the road, and they will also take on South Carolina, Alabama, and Oklahoma. It marks the first meeting with the Crimson Tide since Mike Elko took the helm, and the trip to Norman will be the first since 2009, prior to the program’s decision to depart for the SEC in 2012.
Under Elko, Texas A&M reached the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history, and the coach achieved two notable milestones. Notably, a record 10 players from the Aggies were selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, a development that aligned with his offseason expectations. This period of growth and anticipation extends to this offseason, during which Texas A&M is set to bring back 65% of its 2025 roster, add 17 transfer portal additions, and rely on starting quarterback Marcel Reed returning under center. With that combination, optimism remains high that the program can again maximize its potential.
In projections that accompany nearly every preseason top-25 ranking, including ESPN’s updated FPI standings, Texas A&M is positioned 11th in the nation, with roughly a 40% chance of returning to the CFP. The Aggies also enter the season with what’s deemed the ninth-toughest schedule in the country. Of the 15 other SEC programs, Oklahoma (ranked 2nd), Texas (3rd), Kentucky (4th), Ole Miss (5th), Mississippi State (6th), and the Florida Gators (7th) are noted as having tougher schedules. Still, until the games are played, much of this assessment remains speculative, largely based on the 2025 results and the relative talent level of each opponent.
Texas A&M is projected to be favored in every home game this season, while the regular-season finale against Texas is expected to be a competitive matchup. To match or surpass last season’s success and remain in the CFP conversation, the Aggies will likely need to post at least 10 wins, which implies achieving a 4-1 or 3-2 record on the road in order to stay on track.
