The offense did enough to secure the win today, finally tapping into some timely hits, but the narrative of the game belongs to Tanner Bibee and the bullpen. Bibee’s strikeout-to-walk ratio wasn’t ideal, yet you can’t complain about six and two-thirds innings of allowing just one run. Aside from a few blow-up innings this season, he routinely goes deep into games and gives the Guardians a strong chance to win, regardless of what his win–loss record shows.
Today’s game emphasized timely hitting. Gabriel Arias and Brayan Rocchio each collected multi-hit performances, but it was Steven Kwan and Patrick Bailey who delivered the decisive blows, each with a pair of two-run doubles that pushed Cleveland ahead and provided the offense with the spark they needed. The Guardians’ catching duo has not been celebrated for their batting, yet they have started to swing the bat well over the past month or two, a development that fans love to see and that adds another layer of depth to the lineup.
As for the next step, the Guardians will attempt to complete the series sweep tomorrow at 1:40 p.m. ET. The pitching matchup features Joey Cantillo taking the mound against Tyler Phillips, with the goal of finishing the series on a high note.
