Decatur basketball standout Noah Boler-Kyle dies after medical event

   ​Noah Boler-Kyle, a Decatur Heritage Christian Academy graduate who later shone on the hardwood at Lee University in Tennessee, has passed away. Boler-Kyle died Friday following a serious medical event that required hospitalization at UAB Hospital, according to family members who shared the news in recent days. Lee University’s athletic department confirmed the former Flames basketball standout’s passing in a message posted to X on Saturday. “It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of former Men’s Basketball Player Noah Boler-Kyle,” the post read. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those who knew and loved Noah. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. — Psalm 34:18.”
Standing 6 feet 9 inches tall, Boler-Kyle was a forward who spent five seasons with Lee University’s men’s basketball program. He earned his bachelor’s degree during his initial years with the Flames and then returned for a graduate-season, contributing as a graduate student. In the 2024-25 season, Boler-Kyle appeared in 27 games, averaging 9.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per outing while shooting an impressive 59.1 percent from the field.
Boler-Kyle made his mark at Decatur Heritage Christian Academy before beginning his college career, and his hometown has been listed as Decatur throughout his time with the Flames. He played a pivotal role in Decatur Heritage Christian Academy’s landmark achievement, helping the school win its first-ever AHSAA Class 1A boys’ basketball state championship in 2019.
Funeral arrangements had not been announced as of Saturday. Boler-Kyle’s passing is a significant loss for his family, friends, teammates, and the Decatur and Lee University communities, all of whom remember him for his talent, character, and contributions on and off the court. His legacy lives on in the memories of those who witnessed his growth from a standout prep player to a respected college athlete and a devoted member of his community.
