The Oklahoma Sooners are thrilled to have wide receiver Isaiah Sategna back in the fold for 2026. This offseason presented Sategna with several enticing options, including entering the NFL Draft or seeking a transfer. Yet he chose to remain in Norman, and he recently shared his reasoning in a program-produced video. “This is the place I needed to be,” Sategna said, underscoring his conviction that Oklahoma is where he can grow and maximize his talents.
Considering what Sategna accomplished last season, it’s easy to understand why the Sooners were so eager to bring him back. In 2025, he totaled 67 receptions for 965 yards and eight receiving touchdowns, averaging 14.4 yards per catch. That leap from his 2024 numbers at Arkansas—491 receiving yards—to nearly 1,000 yards in his first year with Oklahoma represents a dramatic and transformative jump. As Oklahoma looks ahead to 2026, the question becomes whether Sategna can push for an even bigger leap.
There’s no sugarcoating the reality: without Sategna, Oklahoma’s offense would face a tougher path. He was the passing offense last season, delivering when it mattered most, including the game-winning touchdown against LSU. He also contributed on special teams with several pivotal punt returns, illustrating his value in multiple phases of the game. He became the player the Sooners leaned on deep into the year, and he consistently delivered.
The Sooners do have depth at wide receiver. Trell Harris offers a similar style and could step up if needed, while McKenzie Alleyne provides another reliable option within the room. Yet Sategna remains the central figure, the centerpiece of the corps. Replacing his production and big-play ability would be a formidable task for any other player on the roster.
The good news for Sategna is that he won’t bear the entire burden alone in 2026. Sharing responsibilities with Parker Livingstone and Harris could reduce the load and create opportunities that weren’t as accessible last season. When defenses must account for multiple targets, Sategna should encounter fewer double teams and more favorable one-on-one matchups downfield.
If John Mateer is healthy this year and shows improvement over 2025, that would add another dynamic to the offense that benefits Sategna. With more weapons around him, reaching the 1,200-yard mark becomes a realistic goal. Such production would position him among the top wide receiver prospects for the 2027 NFL Draft. Oklahoma is undoubtedly glad to have him back, and if everything comes together as hoped, this could be the season when Sategna evolves from a breakout player into a household name.
