Morning Rumble: Hurricanes Goalie Coach Takes Special Stanley Cup Trip; Chipotle is Bussin’; Jets Prospect Changes Plans

By admin — In News — July 12, 2026

Happy Sunday, everyone! We’re smack in the middle of the hockey offseason, so chatter outside of the persistent Connor Hellebuyck and Dylan Larkin rumors is slim. That gives us a chance to highlight some solid stories that slipped through the cracks this weekend.
Starting with the Stanley Cup, its journey continues with a nod to those who helped Hurricanes fans celebrate their championship. Goaltending coach Paul Schonfelder even took the trophy to Ottawa Children’s Hospital, a gesture shared by the Keeper of the Cup, Philip Pritchard, on Saturday afternoon.
Before Bresson Brandon Bussi captured that iconic red-and-silver, he was already juggling jobs while studying accounting in Boston back in 2020. He doubled up as a youth goaltending coach and, surprisingly, worked at Chipotle. When that LinkedIn nugget went viral, it wasn’t long before Chipotle themselves confirmed the partnership. Bussi shared the sponsorship on Instagram last Friday—great stuff all around.
On the Pittsburgh front, Penguins observers note a low-profile free agency period, with moves happening away from the spotlight. While the team remains a frequent topic of speculation, PHN’s Dan Kingerski suggests it’s time to dial down the hyperbole and simply move on.
Turning to NHL trade chatter, the Winnipeg Jets have a draft pick making his way to North America. Viggo Bjork, the Jets’ eighth overall selection, is leaving the SHL to join the Jets’ system. The 18-year-old forward had been expected to stay in Europe for another season, but he’s chosen to come over now.
In California, NBC Sports is covering the American Century Championship in full swing in Nevada, featuring five NHL players, both current and former: Joe Pavelski, T.J. Oshie, Matt Boldy, Matthew Tkachuk, and Brady Tkachuk. At this stage, Pavelski, the reigning champion, sits in second place behind Mardy Fish. Boldy sits tied for 13th, Matthew Tkachuk tied for 22nd, Oshie tied for 25th, and Brady Tkachuk tied for 55th. NBC Sports California’s Jordan Elliott caught up with Pavelski on Wednesday as he prepared for the tournament.
