Marco Bezzecchi undergoes successful surgery in Italy, targets British GP return

By admin — In News — July 12, 2026

Marco Bezzecchi is plotting a comeback for MotoGP’s British Grand Prix next month after undergoing a successful operation on his broken collarbone in Italy. The ordeal began when he crashed during qualifying for the German Grand Prix on Saturday, prompting an immediate return home to Italy to consult with Dr. Giuseppe Porcellini. Aprilia had already indicated that the injury required urgent surgery, and, as planned, the 27-year-old rider went under the knife on Sunday morning at a hospital in Modena. The procedure was described as a success, with the fracture being reduced and stabilised as part of the treatment.
With MotoGP taking a four-month summer break following the Sachsenring round, Bezzecchi hopes to return to action without missing any additional races. The British Grand Prix at Silverstone is slated for 9 August. In an official update, Aprilia stated: “Dear Media, Marco Bezzecchi has undergone successful surgery performed by Dr. Giuseppe Porcellini at the University Hospital of Sassuolo; the fracture of his left clavicle was reduced and stabilised. Although it is too early to define a precise recovery timeline, we hope to see Marco return to racing at the next GP at Silverstone. However, a more definitive prognosis will be delivered in the coming days based on the evolution of his clinical condition.”
Bezzecchi had just posted the second-fastest time in Q2 when he suffered a dramatic highside at Turn 7 and was violently ejected from the bike. After tumbling through the gravel, he was seen limping on his feet before being transported to the medical centre for a evaluation. Scans confirmed a complete and displaced fracture of the left clavicle, forcing him to withdraw from the weekend.
The Italian rider has failed to score a point in the past four Sunday races. Before his DNS at the Sachsenring, he was shuffled out of contention when teammate Jorge Martin collided with him at Balatonring, then faced a Czech Grand Prix ban for slapping a marshal and crashed out of the Dutch Grand Prix on lap two. As Bezzecchi lost the championship lead to Martin during the Assen round, his advantage has since dwindled, leaving him 11 points behind the leader and potentially vulnerable to losing more ground in the main race at Sachsenring.
