Brazilian superstar removes all footprint of Real Madrid on Instagram as renewal doubts grow

Real Madrid faces a significant challenge this summer as the club remains unsure whether Vinicius Junior will extend his contract. The Brazilian forward’s future at the Spanish giants has been under the microscope for some time, with Florentino Pérez prioritizing a contract renewal before exploring options such as signing a Galactico-like talent like Michael Olise. The uncertainty surrounding Vinicius has been amplified by fresh developments on his social media, where he has removed visible references to Real Madrid.
Defensa Central reports that Vinicius has revamped his Instagram profile, switching his profile image to black, deleting any mention of Real Madrid from his bio, and not pinning any club-related posts. His feed now contains only a few Nadal-like farewell notes to teammates David Alaba and Dani Carvajal, underscoring a sense of distance from the club. This is not the first time the forward has taken such actions; he previously erased Real Madrid references from his profile in December after a match against Sevilla and amid a period when portions of the Santiago Bernabéu crowd subjected him to whistles.
Still, readers should be cautious about reading too much into these changes. Players routinely adjust their social media for personal, branding, or sponsorship reasons, and Vinicius has not publicly tied these edits to his contract situation. At present, Vinicius is a free agent in 2027, which places Madrid at a crossroads: allow one of their most valuable assets to enter the final year of his deal and risk both financial strain and sporting repercussions, or move to secure a long-term replacement should negotiations stall.
The possibility of a Galactico-level addition looms large if Vinicius does not remain at the club, and even a high-wage star like Olise could become a complicating factor if Vinicius remains on the wage bill without a new deal. Florentino Pérez’s willingness to retain Vinicius does not automatically guarantee a renewal; the financial and sporting implications must align to advance any agreement. In isolation, the social media edits might seem minor, but when viewed in the broader renewal talks, they contribute to a worrying narrative for Madrid fans and officials.
Madrid supporters will be awaiting an official update from either the club or Vinicius himself in the coming days. The question remains whether the 22-year-old winger will sign a fresh contract with Real Madrid or if the club will begin exploring alternatives to allow him to depart this summer. Until concrete news emerges, Santiago Bernabéu will closely monitor developments, hopeful that a formal commitment from Vinicius Jr. will be forthcoming and that Madrid can navigate the delicate balance between retaining a cornerstone of their attack and planning for potential changes to their attacking lineup.
