Four UCLA baseball players were chosen on Day 1 of the 2026 MLB Draft on Saturday, the initial phase of the event that includes the first 135 picks across the first four rounds. Leading the charge was star shortstop Roch Cholowsky, the two-time Big Ten Player of the Year who entered the draft as the consensus No. 1 overall prospect. Cholowsky’s talent earned him the No. 1 overall pick, as he landed with the Chicago White Sox, a moment he described as a dream come true. #GoBruins pic.twitter.com/YWnd1AWEsK— UCLA Baseball (@UCLABaseball) July 11, 2026
Cholowsky wasn’t the only UCLA product to hear his name called on Day 1. The Bruins continued to hear cheers from their supporters as three more players were selected by Major League clubs. Right-handed pitcher Logan Reddemann went off the board in the second round, selected by the Colorado Rockies with the No. 38 overall pick. Hailing from Palmdale, California, Reddemann was the Bruins’ ace in 2026 and is set to begin his professional journey with Colorado. “Redd’s a Rockie!” echoed the excitement on social media after his selection: Logan Reddemann is selected in the second round (No. 38 overall) by the Colorado Rockies! #GoBruins pic.twitter.com/QuZTzvvLVX— UCLA Baseball (@UCLABaseball) July 11, 2026
Still in the second round, the Cincinnati Reds added another Bruins standout, drafting first baseman Mulivai Levu with the No. 70 overall pick. Levu was a clutch contributor for UCLA, finishing the 2025 season second in the nation with 85 RBIs and delivering two walk-off hits during the Big Ten Tournament to clinch the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player Award. He also led UCLA with a .340 batting average this season. “Vai is headed to Cincy!” read the post announcing Levu’s selection: Mulivai Levu is selected with the No. 70 overall pick by the Cincinnati Reds! #GoBruins pic.twitter.com/jjnQdaahmL— UCLA Baseball (@UCLABaseball) July 11, 2026
In the fourth round, the Oakland Athletics picked third baseman Roman Martin at No. 111 overall. Martin marks the first Bruins draftee by the A’s since Luke Persico in the 12th round of the 2016 MLB Draft. Martin’s breakout came in 2025 when he was named the Los Angeles Regional Most Outstanding Player, helping UCLA advance to the Men’s College World Series for the first time in 12 years. He completed the 2026 season as an All-Big Ten honoree, and Oakland clearly saw a promising future in his game. “The A’s got a good one! Beyond Cholowsky, Reddemann, Levu, and Martin, several other Bruins awaited their fate on Day 2 of the draft on Sunday. Notable Bruins players who remained in the draft pool included center fielder Will Gasparino, right-hander Cal Randall, catcher Cashel Dugger, and left fielder Dean West, all hoping to hear their names called as the event continued. The draft’s Day 1 results underscored UCLA’s strong talent pipeline and its ability to produce professional-caliber players who are expected to contribute at the highest level of baseball.
