Familiar faces selected on day two of the MLB draft

   ​Wichita, Kan. (KSNW) — The MLB Draft rolled on Sunday, continuing with rounds five through 20. The first local name selected was Kansas State pitcher James Guyette, picked in the fifth round, 157th overall, by the San Diego Padres. Brady Ballinger followed as the next local player taken, chosen by the Detroit Tigers in the seventh round, 216th overall.
On day one of the draft, Round eight featured two players with ties to Wichita. Washington State University third baseman Jayson Jones was the round’s second selection, 225th overall, by the Chicago White Sox. Bishop Carroll product Paul Schoenfeld went 11 picks later, 236th overall, to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Tazwell Butler, from Kansas State, was selected in the 10th round, 301st overall, by the Houston Astros. The University of Kansas’s Mathis Nayral went just before the end of the 13th round, 402nd overall, to the Toronto Blue Jays.
World Cup 2026 milestones aside, the Wichita market kept pushing through with more draft picks. Wichita State’s Brady Hamilton went 10 picks after Nayral, 412th overall, to the Atlanta Braves. Kansas State’s Bear Madliak was taken early in the 18th round, 531st overall, by the Oakland Athletics. Shocker Max Kaufer followed not long after, six selections later at 537th overall, going to the Texas Rangers.
