MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Lagerald Vick, a former standout guard for the University of Kansas who starred at Douglass High School, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after authorities say he opened fire during a July 4 party in Frayser. Vick was booked into the Shelby County Jail on Saturday, following the incident.
Police reports indicate that Memphis officers responded to Regional One on the morning of July 5 after a man arrived with a gunshot wound to his back. According to an affidavit, the victim told investigators he was at a party at the Greenbriar Apartments, located in the 3100 block of Madewell Drive, when he became involved in a verbal altercation with a man who was carrying a handgun. The affidavit describes how the victim attempted to leave, but the suspect pursued him and fired a single shot, injuring him in the lower right side of his back. The suspect then fled the scene.
Investigators say the victim later identified Vick as the shooter in a photographic lineup. Vick now faces charges of criminal attempt to commit first-degree murder and the use of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
According to arrest records, Vick’s bond is set at $1.5 million. He is slated to appear for arraignment on Monday, July 13, with a bail review hearing planned for Tuesday.
