Husker Wrestling: Incoming Freshman Parrow Wins Fargo National Title in Freestyle

Nebraska had six future Huskers compete this weekend at the U.S. Marine Corps Junior National Championships—the largest wrestling tournament on the planet, staged in Fargo, North Dakota—and the results included an individual title plus two additional podium finishes. Five members of Nebraska’s highly touted 2026 signing class took part, along with the program’s lone 2027 commit from Iowa, Mac Crosson. The event showcased the depth at the middle weights, with three All-Americans projected at 149 through 165 pounds in college.
Davis Parrow emerged as one of the tournament’s standout performers, starting strong and finishing strong to claim a Junior Fargo National Championship. He went 7-0 over the weekend, recording five wins by technical fall and outscoring his opponents 67-12 in the process. Parrow opened the tournament Friday with two technical falls, 10-0 and 11-0, spending only 2 minutes, 17 seconds on the mat that day.
Saturday continued to highlight Parrow’s dominance, with two more technical-fall victories that propelled him into Sunday’s quarterfinals. He defeated 23-seed Brendan Nardin of Illinois 12-2 and 26-seed Bobby Duffy of New Jersey 11-0, both matches finishing in the first period. In the quarterfinals, Parrow edged 15-seed Xavier Chavez of Arizona with a 4-3 decision to secure a podium spot. In the semifinals, he dominated 30-seed Deacon Morgan of Michigan, winning by a technical fall, 10-0, in 1 minute, 31 seconds.
Advancing to the final, Parrow faced 8-seed Jason Dube of Pennsylvania. Dube is ranked No. 7 nationally at 150 pounds by FloWrestling, while Parrow is ranked No. 20. For the first five and a half minutes, Dube held a 4-0 lead, but Parrow mounted a comeback with a takedown and a gut-wrench turn to tie the match. He then used a whizzer to flip Dube over for a decisive 4-point move. Dube briefly reversed and secured a leg lace turn, but Parrow led 8-7 as time expired. Dube’s corner challenged the call but failed, giving Parrow the 9-7 victory and the championship.
Parrow, a two-time Minnesota state champion, has long been considered a strong prospect, and this performance elevates his profile as he prepares to join Nebraska. Adding Parrow to an already deep and youthful 149-pound group will intensify the competition for that spot in the coming years.
Nebraska also boasted Petersen, widely regarded as the top 2026 prospect in the state, who had an impressive Fargo run that culminated in a sixth-place finish and a podium finish to cap a strong weekend. Petersen opened Friday with dominance, delivering two technical-victory wins—one in 32 seconds and the other in 1:08. He continued on Saturday with a decisive performance against 42-seed Colton Wilson from Missouri, earning a 10-0 tech victory in quick fashion and setting the tone for his weekend.
This gathering underlines Nebraska’s depth and the strong incoming class, especially at middleweights, and highlights the program’s trajectory as it builds a competitive, year-in and year-out roster from top to bottom. The combination of Parrow’s national title and Petersen’s podium finish, along with the other signees competing at Fargo, points to a bright future for Nebraska wrestling as these athletes acclimate to college competition and contribute to a rising program.
