Leeds pushing to complete deal for Muharemovic next week after sending a verbal proposal

Leeds United are accelerating their pursuit of Sassuolo’s Tarik Muharemovic and are optimistic about making significant progress in negotiations next week. Since Pascal Struijk’s departure left a gap at the heart of their defence, the English club has prioritized strengthening central defence, with Muharemovic emerging as one of their top targets. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano indicated over the weekend that Leeds had entered the race for the 23-year-old Bosnia international, and the club now appears determined to secure his signature.
Romano has since reported that Leeds have already put a verbal contract proposal on the table and are pushing hard to reach a formal agreement. The Yorkshire club also believes they are well placed in talks with Sassuolo, with conversations between clubs expected to intensify in the coming days. In recent weeks, Leeds’ transfer strategy has shifted considerably. While initial conversations focused more on bolstering the attack, the necessity to rebuild the defence has become increasingly urgent, especially with Karl Darlow’s likely exit adding another vacancy to fill. However, addressing the centre-back position remains Leeds’ top priority.
Muharemovic is viewed as a player who could slot straight into Daniel Farke’s starting XI. In Serie A last season, he won 64 percent of his aerial duels and 64 percent of his ground duels, contributing to six clean sheets for his team. He also registered two goals and two assists. At 6ft 3in, the left-footed centre-back brings a calm presence on the ball and in possession. While he is not celebrated for world-class recovery pace, his game intelligence and defensive positioning have earned widespread praise during his rise in Italy.
If Leeds can withstand competition and seal the deal next week, landing Muharemovic would mark a strong statement of intent from the club. It would provide head coach Daniel Farke with a imposing left-sided defender, addressing a critical area ahead of the new Premier League campaign. Beyond Muharemovic, Leeds are also exploring a move for Mariano Troilo. Ousmane Diomande is on their radar as well, though a deal for him is currently considered too expensive.
