Training camp for the New York Giants is looming just two weeks away, and this summer is packed with fresh elements. Foremost is the relocation to a new training site, The Greenbrier in West Virginia, where the initial two weeks of camp will unfold. It marks the first time since 2012 that the Giants will train away from their New Jersey headquarters, adding a new backdrop and routine to the preparation. Alongside the venue, a revamped coaching staff led by John Harbaugh, supported by an array of veteran assistants, promises a tight and demanding program designed to push players to their limits. The dog days of summer have returned, and expectations are high as everyone works to establish themselves.
The roster itself has continued to evolve over recent seasons, with a mix of old faces and new additions competing for roles. Harbaugh has indicated that this summer will offer everyone a clean slate—a chance to prove their worth and earn their spot on the final roster. One area currently drawing significant attention is the secondary. The Giants appear to be light on depth there, and general manager Joe Schoen has been active in adding help. Now it falls to Harbaugh and his staff to mold the group into a cohesive and capable unit.
Carl Banks, the two-time Super Bowl champion and Giants Ring of Honor inductee who has served as the team’s top radio analyst since 2007, has underscored the secondary as the focal point of camp. Adebo Paulson, who signed a three-year, $54 million free-agent deal in 2025 and played only 12 games in his first season with New York, figures to be a starter at one outside corner. He spent the previous year dealing with knee issues and was tasked with anchoring a passive secondary, but with Dennard Wilson now coordinating, Adebo should be able to refresh his approach and attack more aggressively.
The other outside corner slot remains up for grabs. Deonte Banks, the former first-round pick who has faced some skepticism from observers, is in the mix as Harbaugh and the staff work to rebuild him. Greg Newsome II, another former first-round choice (this time from the Browns), signed a one-year, $8 million prove-it deal in March and will also have a genuine chance to claim the job. Dru Phillips is expected to hold onto his slot corner and nickel duties, having delivered solid performances in his two seasons in blue.
Looking further down the depth chart, rookie Colton Hood, the Giants’ second-round pick from Tennessee, enters camp with the potential to make an early impact. Hood brings a combination of pedigree and tools that could accelerate his role on the defense if he continues to develop quickly. Other notable names in the mix include Art Green, Korie Black, Nic Jones, and Jarrick Bernard-Converse, all of whom could contribute in various sub-packages or rotational roles.
At the safety and secondary levels, Jevon Holland and Tyler Nubin are expected to begin as starters. The Giants have invested heavily in Holland as a high-profile free agent addition and in Nubin as a former second-round pick, but neither played a full season last year. The team is counting on a productive Year 2 of their partnership, aided by Wilson’s aggressive scheme, to deliver better results. To keep the competition intense, the Giants welcomed back Jason Pinnock and added former Baltimore Raven Ar’Darius Washington, both of whom will provide depth and pressure on Holland and Nubin during camp. Washington’s versatility could also contribute to improved outcomes in the passing game, potentially aiding the team’s overall SEO-friendly coverage and exploration of schemes.
With the roster moving pieces and a new coaching framework in place, the Giants are leaving no stone unturned as they prepare for the season. Camp at The Greenbrier will be a proving ground for players to earn their roles and for the defense to establish its identity under Dennard Wilson’s scheme. The early battles in the secondary, the development of young corners like Hood, and the ongoing competition at safety will be closely watched as the team aims to build a more resilient and versatile unit for the arduous schedule ahead.
