Noles News: FSU ranked No. 28 in preseason FPI

By admin — In News — July 13, 2026

Over the weekend, Florida State missed out on a top target as blue-chip offensive lineman DaJohn Yarborough committed to California over the Seminoles and Washington. With Yarborough’s decision, the Seminoles still do not have an offensive line commitment in their 2027 class, which currently sits at No. 53 in the 247Sports Composite Rankings and No. 15 within the ACC. The current 2027 Florida State recruiting haul includes several players at various positions: a 3-star quarterback Logan Flaherty from Florida, a 4-star running back Jayden Miles from Louisiana, a 3-star tight end Connor Winn from Florida, a 4-star wide receiver Sean Green from Georgia, a 3-star wide receiver Majay Thompson from North Carolina, a 4-star defensive lineman Sam LeJeune from Mississippi, a 4-star edge Anthony Cavallaro from Florida, a 3-star edge Jaxon Holly from Georgia, a 4-star linebacker Jernard Albright from Maryland, a 3-star linebacker Olrick Johnson III from Georgia, a 3-star defensive lineman Eric Vaulx Jr. from Mississippi, and a 3-star defensive back Jemari Foreman from Florida.
ESPN’s updated Football Power Index (FPI) rankings place Florida State at No. 28 entering the season, with the Seminoles’ strength of schedule ranked No. 22. The projection estimates FSU’s record at 6.7-5.4, signaling a 71% chance of finishing with more than six wins, a 3.2% chance to win the ACC, and a 9.2% chance to reach the playoff. FPI is designed to be a forward-looking predictor of team performance, expressed as how many points above or below average a team stands. Its projections are derived from 20,000 simulations of the remainder of the season, incorporating results to date and the remaining schedule. It’s worth noting that FPI ratings and projections can differ year to year, and older data prior to 2019 may be incomplete.
In other Florida State notes, Jordan Silversmith delivered a closer look at the program’s revamped linebacker room in the latest segment of the preseason preview series. Following that, rankings for the next ten best-ever Florida State football games, as determined by fans, were revealed recently. The Seminoles are set to appear first at ACC Kickoff, slated to take the stage this Wednesday.
Florida State also saw a productive weekend in terms of NFL and college developments, as seven Seminoles were drafted, in addition to two high school commitments and a portal transfer, underscoring a strong period of player movement and recruitment for the program. This combination of recruiting activity, updated projections, and recent roster evaluations continues to shape expectations for Florida State as the 2027 class and the upcoming season take form.
If you’re looking for the latest in Seminoles recruitment and season outlook, this context highlights the key takeaways: Yarborough’s pledge to Cal over FSU and Washington leaves the offensive line target situation unresolved; the 2027 class remains without an O-line commitment and sits in the low 50s nationally; FPI places Florida State in the upper tier of the ACC with a reasonably optimistic outlook for wins and postseason potential; and statewide and national media coverage continues to drill into the program’s depth at linebacker and the impact of recent drafts and commitments on future success.
