As TOC well knows, Michigan State has experienced its fair share of turnover in high-profile executive and coaching level positions recently. Earlier this spring, after just over two years on the job, President Kevin Guskiewicz announced he would depart for the same role at Clemson University. Guskiewicz then reversed course and will now remain in his position at MSU but he is Michigan State’s sixth leader, either in an acting, interim, or permanent capacity, since Lou Anna K. Nightingale has restored the program’s elite status after a rough decade under Tom Anastos and Danton Cole.Of course the only constant at Michigan State through all of this turnover has been men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo, who will begin his 32nd year leading the program, and 44th overall after serving as Jud Heathcote’s assistant from 1983-1995.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementBecause of the turnover at Michigan State, we thought it might be interesting to compare the Spartans’ situation to the last ten NCAA football and men’s basketball national champions.
