With their final pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, the Milwaukee Brewers decided to bring the Sabathia family name back into the organization.Milwaukee selected Carsten Sabathia III, the son of former Brewers pitcher CC Sabathia, with the 611th pick in the 20th round of the draft. Sabathia’s father was not in Milwaukee long, but he made a star-studded impact after being traded to the Brewers from the Cleveland Guardians on July 7, 2008.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementIn 17 starts with Milwaukee, Sabathia notched an 11-2 record with a 1.65 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP. Now, he will watch his son, who played first base for the University of Houston, try to make his Major League Baseball dreams come true.Ahead of Tuesday’s 2026 MLB All-Star Game at Citizens Bank Field in Philadelphia, Sabathia talked with Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel about Carsten coming to the organization.”Yeah, super excited,” Sabathia said. “Just waiting for the opportunity, waiting for any kind of opportunity. For it to come from the Milwaukee Brewers organization is just exciting. I think everybody knows how much me and my family love that organization, so for Carson to be a part of it is exciting.”Sabathia III was just a child during his dad’s brief stop in Milwaukee, but he has some memories of it.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement”Well, he was five when I was there,” Sabathia said. “So, he remembers where we lived, and the house. They left to go back to school in September, so he wasn’t there for the playoff run or anything like that, but he remembers a little bit of it. I think he told the story about how he found out.”During the 2026 season with Houston, Sabathia III appeared in 37 games and made 24 starts. Of his starting appearances, 16 were at designated hitter and eight were at first base, according to his college profile.According to Sabathia, his son is a cerebral, hardworking player.”Oh, man, he’s high baseball IQ,” Sabathia said. “He loves the game. He’s going to work hard to be the best that he can be. Every limitation that he’s had in his life, whether it’s not being fast enough, not being strong enough, all these different things, he’s figured it out, worked through them, and I’m excited to see him turn pro.”AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementSabathia III has fought through adversity to be where he is now, and it has made his father proud.”I mean, I couldn’t be more proud of him,” Sabathia said. “He’s had a tough last four years going through college and trying to figure out playing time, where to play. But I think the fans in Milwaukee are going to be excited.”Don’t miss out on our ROUNDTABLE community and the latest news! It’s completely free to join.
