Detroit Lions 2026 Player Profile: Blake Miller

By admin — In News — July 16, 2026

With Detroit Lions training camp just around the corner, one of the most tantalizing position battles will take place at right tackle. Will first-round rookie Blake Miller seize the job immediately, or will veteran Larry Borom prevail onto the starting role? As my Detroit Lions player profile series continues, it’s time to take a closer look at one of the franchise’s most important draft picks: offensive tackle Blake Miller.Detroit selected Miller with the No. 17 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, making him the Lions’ first first-round offensive tackle since they drafted Penei Sewell in 2021. The selection wasn’t just about replacing a starter—it was about securing another cornerstone for one of the NFL’s premier offensive lines.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementMiller arrives in Detroit after an outstanding four-year career at Clemson, where he started all 54 games of his collegiate career. Even more impressive, he never missed a single offensive snap, finishing with a school-record 3,778 career snaps. Durability has become one of Miller’s defining traits. He has even said he has missed only one football practice since the eighth grade, a level of dependability that undoubtedly appealed to general manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell. At 6-foot-6¾ and 317 pounds, Miller possesses the size, athleticism and movement skills NFL teams covet. A former wrestler, he combines impressive balance with outstanding lateral quickness, allowing him to mirror edge rushers while remaining under control in pass protection. Although he isn’t considered an overpowering mauler, he plays with a relentless, physical mentality and consistently looks to finish blocks through the whistle. His athletic testing further reinforced his elite traits. Miller posted a 9.90 Relative Athletic Score (RAS), ranking 17th among 1,645 offensive tackle prospects tested since 1987. He ran a 5.04-second 40-yard dash, placing in the 86th percentile among offensive tackles, while his 32-inch vertical jump, 113-inch broad jump and 32 bench press reps all ranked in at least the 87th percentile at the position. The production matched the athletic profile. In 2025, Miller earned a 78.5 overall Pro Football Focus grade, including an impressive 83.5 pass-blocking grade. He surrendered just two sacks, two quarterback hits and 14 total pressures while committing only five penalties. Over his four-year Clemson career, he allowed only seven sacks despite facing some of the nation’s top pass rushers.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementMiller also leaves Clemson with an impressive list of accolades. He was a two-time First-Team All-ACC selection, a Third-Team All-ACC honoree in 2023, a Freshman All-American in 2022 and served as a team captain during his final season. He also set Clemson records for both consecutive starts by a non-specialist and career offensive snaps. The biggest question entering training camp is whether Miller is ready to start immediately.
