Saints RB Alvin Kamara is fired up heading into 2026

By admin — In News — July 16, 2026

The conspiracies surrounding the New Orleans Saints and Alvin Kamara are officially over as Kamara has signed a reworked deal to keep the veteran running back in New Orleans for the 2026 season, per Saints legend Terron Armstead. While breaking the news in the newest episode of his podcast, The Set, Armstead revealed Kamara is “hungry and pissed off,” due to the stigmas surrounding him and his play over the last couple of seasons. The veteran running back’s numbers have dropped over the last few seasons, but the lack of production can’t be put all on the legendary Saints running back’s legs.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementNew Orleans has dealt with a revolving door of coaches, quarterbacks, and offensive line play since Drew Brees and Sean Payton left in 2021 and 2022. While Kamara has seen declining numbers over the years, he’s still shown the ability to make plays when given the correct tools. And 2026 couldn’t have been set up any better for Kamara and the Saints. New Orleans has found their quarterback and coach, and loaded up on offense. While signing Travis Etienne may cause you to question Kamara’s return, the veteran running back has a clear role in the offense. He won’t have to be the three-down back anymore. New Orleans can draw up plays that best utilize his versatile skill set and get him open in space. Kamara’s game was never running up the middle, and while he was serviceable at it, he has always excelled as a receiver and in space. In his new role, the aging running back will have limited but optimized touches throughout the season. Rather than having to recover from 20+ touches per game, Kamara will likely see closer to 12 touches on designated attempts. This, on top of keeping his legs fresh between touches, should also lessen his chances of getting injured, a problem he has dealt with in recent seasons.Kamara likely won’t be an All-Pro in 2026, but he will be a factor in the Saints’ offense. New Orleans is a better team with the veteran back on it, and now, as importantly, is a leader and voice in the locker room.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementRe-signing Kamara was always the right move; it was just a matter of getting the money right. While the full details of the restructure haven’t been revealed yet, the black and gold continue to show the right way to pay respect to franchise legends without slowing down their rebuild.2026 may be Kamara’s last season in the black and gold, and possibly his last season in the NFL. While retirement approaches, the 10th-year veteran will be a weapon for the Saints in a new RB2 role. With an offense-minded head coach, a revamped offensive line, and more designated plays, Kamara is set to have a strong year and be a big contributor to the New Orleans offense.
