   ​It was another year of victories, milestones and excitement for Gardner-area sports. We saw teams accomplish winning seasons, athletes cement their name in the record books and moments that remind us why high school sports are so special.Now as we look back at the great moments, it’s time to decide which was the best. Finally, this fall, the team rallied in Week 3 to defeat Athol 14-12. Gabe Rodriguez threw for a 90-yard touchdown, connecting with Corey Peterson in the third quarter to take a lead. Rodriguez also scored the team’s first touchdown of the game, catching a pass from Liam Murphy to score.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementUnder the leadership of first-year head coach Meghan Lehouiller, the Wildcats fought to qualify for the state championship tournament. It came down to their final game, and Gardner defeated St. Bernard’s 1-0 to send themselves to playoffs.The Oakmont Spartans celebrate winning the Clark Tournament Large School Championship after defeating Grafton Feb. 21 at Clark University.After losing in the final last season, the Spartans had the Clark Tournament on their list of goals for this winter. They not only earned the top seed in the large-school bracket, but also won the tournament, defeating No. 3 Grafton 49-35 in the championship game.More: Vote for The Gardner News 2026 Girls Track and Field Athlete of the YearAdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementCam Gamache of Gardner and Max Kauffman of Narragansett both reached 1,000 career points on Jan. 2. Gamache did it first in the Wildcats’ game against Frontier. Later in the night, Kauffman accomplished the same milestone in the Warriors’ battle against Maynard. Gamache finished as Gardner’s second all-time male scorer with 1,269 points and Kauffman took the spot for Narragansett’s top male scorer with 1,339.Gardner’s Cam Gamache poses with his family after reaching the 1,000-point milestone in a game against Frontier on January 2, 2026.Oakmont lacrosse showed its dominance this spring with four players, two from the boys squad and two from the girls team, accomplished big offensive goals. Quin Buckley and Brayden Nally both reached 200 career points, just two weeks apart from one another. Julia LaPrade and Juliette Gelinas each scored their 100th goal on the same night.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe Oakmont 1,600 meter sprint medley relay team placed eighth at the Nike Nationals this spring. The team of Teagan Yoder, Jackson Deloge, Jackson Traylor and Jayden Brostrom were named All-Americans for the outs
