Still a free agent over two weeks after the NBA’s official free agency period opened up, LeBron James made an appearance at Fanatics Fest in the Hudson Yards section of New York City on Thursday. He did a live recording of his “Mind the Game” podcast at Javits Center, the venue where Fanatics Fest is being held, and predictably, co-host Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers asked James if “there a decision that still has to be made?”AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementJames didn’t reveal anything, but later on Thursday at the CNBC and Boardroom Game Plan Summit, James said a decision and announcement are coming soon, per ESPN.”I won’t hold you guys up too much longer,” he said. The Los Angeles Lakers were informed on the morning of June 30 that James would not be re-signing with them. That ended an eight-year run with the storied franchise that had its share of ups and downs and included an NBA championship in 2020.The teams thought to be in the running for James’ services are the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors, while the Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets also remain possibilities. The 41-year-old also talked about a conversation he had with his daughter, Zhuri, who is a talented volleyball player and will soon turn 12 years old.”I pulled her to the side and I was like, ‘Baby, I’m letting you know. I don’t want you to hear from nobody else, but I won’t be playing for the Lakers next year. I will be playing somewhere else,'” James recalled. “‘I won’t be home all the time. And you may not have an answer right now. You can give me an answer now. We can wait; we can write it down. I just want to know how you felt about it because you mean a lot to me. Me being away from you means a lot.’ So, the family portion is a big thing, too.”James’ departure from the Lakers seemed relatively quick and painless, and he spoke favorably about the team at Fanatics Fest.”Shoutout my former team, I spent eight great years with the Los Angeles Lakers,” James said. “One of the most historical franchises in the world. Shoutout Jeanie Buss, the whole Buss family. Rob Pelinka. Everybody. All the coaches that I played for there. All my teammates. [Expletive], I am going to miss them all, obviously. So, that was an unbelievable ride and I’m just looking forward to what holds next as I wind down the final stages of my journey.”The four-time MVP averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists a game this past season with the Lakers while making the All-Star team for a record 22nd time. At Fanatics Fest on Thursday, he suggested that this coming season may not be his last one in the NBA.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThis article originally appeared on LeBron Wire: LeBron James talks about his free agency at Fanatics Fest
