‘Just not my thing’: Kai Trump says she ‘stays out of politics completely’

Kai Trump, reportedly the granddaughter of former United States President Donald Trump, has made clear that politics aren’t her focus as she builds her own path in sports and social media. During a recent appearance at the ESPYs, she underscored that despite bearing the Trump name, she prefers to steer clear of political involvement while pursuing her own career avenues.
The 19-year-old is entering her first year at the University of Miami, where she has committed to playing golf for the Hurricanes. Beyond golf, Kai is carving out a footprint as a social media influencer, leveraging vlogs and online content to share her experiences and insights with a broad audience. Her competitive golf background is impressive for someone so young: she built a solid resume on circuits such as the Srixon Medalist Tour, the AJGA, and the South Florida PGA during her junior years, which helped secure her spot at Miami. She even made her LPGA Tour debut in November 2025 while still a high school senior, and she has spoken publicly about her professional ambitions. In discussions with Fox News, she indicated that the University of Miami represents the ideal setting for her to pursue a professional golf career.
In interviews, Kai has repeatedly asserted that politics is not her arena. When Sportico pressed her on whether she is drawn to political discourse, she responded plainly, “Honestly, I kind of stay out of politics completely. It’s just not my thing.” Her focus remains squarely on golf and her content creation. She explained that her goal is to demonstrate that an athlete can pursue sports at the highest level while exploring other passions and interests. “I just like showing my life and showing how you can still be an athlete, and you can still do a ton of other things, enjoy a ton of other things. So, I kind of just like showing people that everything’s possible. And I love showing the new generation my progress through college, eventually, but also how I got to where I am today,” she shared.
Kai’s relationship to politics has been a frequent topic of discussion, given her family ties. When confronted about the political episodes that have intersected with sports, such as the UFC 250 event hosted at the White House lawn, she again emphasized her preference to remain apart from political matters, while offering a measured note of appreciation for the event itself. “Honestly, I kind of stay out of politics completely. It’s just not my thing. But I think the UFC event was great. It was really cool being there and especially having veterans in the stadium as well,” she said.
Despite her efforts to avoid political involvement in recent discussions, Kai Trump has previously shown public support for her grandfather at political events, including a 2024 appearance at the Republican National Convention. Yet, she has consistently framed her own public identity around athletics, personal growth, and family-affirming experiences rather than partisan activities. As she launches her college career and grows her presence as a social media figure, Kai aims to demonstrate that a life in sports can be complemented by other interests, and that pursuing excellence on the golf course does not preclude engaging with audiences through modern digital platforms.
In sum, Kai Trump is focusing on golf, education, and a budding influencer career, while maintaining a clear boundary between her public persona and the political sphere. She has repeatedly echoed the sentiment that politics is not her domain, choosing instead to showcase her progress, share her journey, and inspire others by highlighting what is possible when dedication and versatility converge. The trajectory she charts at the University of Miami and beyond will likely emphasize athletic achievement and personal storytelling, rather than partisan involvement, as she continues to craft her unique path in the public eye.
