BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football secured a major recruiting victory on Friday, July 17, when five-star wide receiver Monshun Sales announced his verbal commitment to the Hoosiers. Sales, widely regarded as the nation’s top-ranked receiver, revealed his college decision during a highly anticipated appearance on *The Pat McAfee Show*, giving Indiana one of the biggest commitments in program history.
The Lawrence North standout’s decision is a landmark moment for Indiana football recruiting. Sales is expected to become the highest-ranked recruit ever to commit to the Hoosiers, giving the program a marquee offensive playmaker and a major boost in national recruiting attention. His commitment also represents a significant win for Indiana’s coaching staff, which had been preparing a strong pitch to keep the elite in-state prospect close to home.
During his interview with Pat McAfee, Sales reflected on how his recruitment began and how quickly it grew once college programs started noticing his potential. He said the process really started during his freshman year, around the winter, when Louisville became the first Power Four program to offer him a scholarship. From that point forward, his recruitment continued to accelerate.
“I really started getting recruited my freshman year, towards the winter,” Sales said. “I got an offer from Louisville, and ever since then it just kind of picked up.”
Sales acknowledged that his physical tools helped him stand out early. His size and athletic ability made him a major target for college programs, but he emphasized that talent alone was never enough. He credited his development to the work he put into refining his game and to the support system surrounding him at Lawrence North.
“I know I kind of always had the size,” Sales said. “I just had to work on my craft, and my team around me, my coach, my head coach, Coach Mal, Coach Ray, Coach Wilson. They’re with me every day. They’re on me hard. They don’t let me take no days off.”
For Sales, the rise from early prospect to five-star recruit has been both surprising and rewarding. Even as attention from major college programs grew, he said he did not always imagine his recruitment reaching this level.
“It’s been great, really,” Sales said. “I kind of never thought it was going to be like this, but it’s a blessing.”
Sales’ commitment gives Indiana football a dynamic receiver with the potential to become a cornerstone piece of the Hoosiers’ offense. As the top-ranked wide receiver in the country, he brings elite expectations with him to Bloomington. His combination of size, skill and work ethic has made him one of the most coveted players in the 2026 recruiting class.
Beyond his recruiting ranking, Sales also made it clear that football is central to his everyday life. When asked about his passion for the game, the Indiana football commit described it as something that drives him constantly.
“Ball. I mean, ball is really life,” Sales said. “I wake up, breathe football. Every day. Sleep. Every day, I think it’s football, really.”
That commitment to the sport has shaped how Sales approaches his development as a receiver. He said the details of his craft matter just as much as the highlight plays. With so much attention on him as a highly ranked recruit, Sales said he understands that people are watching everything he does, from his technique to his effort level.
“My craft was really the most important thing,” Sales said. “The little details. Not even just what I do. Just, like, you know, everybody will be looking at me because I know everybody watching to see what I’m going to do. Just picking up on my effort. You know, every little thing.”
Indiana’s ability to land Monshun Sales is a statement for the program. The Hoosiers not only added a five-star prospect, but they also kept one of the state’s premier talents at home. For a program looking to build momentum on the recruiting trail, Sales’ commitment could have a lasting impact.
After the announcement, *The Pat McAfee Show* celebrated the moment on social media, congratulating Sales and sharing a Hoosier-themed message: “HOO HOO HOO HOOSIERS.” The public commitment immediately became one of the biggest Indiana football recruiting stories of the year.
For Indiana football fans, Monshun Sales’ decision is more than just another recruiting win. It is a sign that the Hoosiers can compete for elite national talent, especially when that talent comes from inside the state. With Sales now verbally committed, Indiana has a future offensive centerpiece and one of the most exciting recruits in program history.
