Texas Rangers lineup for July 17, 2026

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers open the second half of the 2026 MLB season on Friday, July 17, with the first game of a three-game road series against the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. Central, with Cal Quantrill taking the mound for Texas and veteran left-hander Chris Sale starting for Atlanta.
The matchup begins an important stretch for the Rangers as they look to build momentum after the All-Star break. Texas will face a challenging test right away against a Braves club sending one of baseball’s most experienced left-handed starters to the mound. With Sale starting for Atlanta, Rangers manager Skip Schumaker has stacked the lineup with right-handed bats and matchup-friendly options.
Texas enters the game as a +175 underdog, reflecting both the difficulty of facing Sale and the challenge of opening the second half on the road against a strong Atlanta team. The Rangers will look to get to Sale early, force him into deep counts and create scoring chances before the Braves can turn the game over to their bullpen.
The Rangers lineup for July 17, 2026, against the Atlanta Braves begins with Justin Foscue serving as the designated hitter and batting leadoff. Wyatt Langford is in left field and batting second, giving Texas a power-speed threat near the top of the order. Brandon Nimmo starts in right field and bats third, followed by Josh Jung at third base in the cleanup spot.
Jake Burger gets the start at first base and bats fifth, giving the Rangers another right-handed power bat in the middle of the order. Ezequiel Duran starts at shortstop and bats sixth, while Cam Cauley is in center field and hitting seventh. Behind the plate, Diaz gets the start at catcher and bats eighth. Lopez rounds out the batting order at second base in the ninth spot.
The full Texas Rangers starting lineup is: Foscue at designated hitter, Langford in left field, Nimmo in right field, Jung at third base, Burger at first base, Duran at shortstop, Cauley in center field, Diaz at catcher and Lopez at second base.
Quantrill will be responsible for setting the tone on the mound for the Rangers. The right-hander will need to work efficiently against an Atlanta lineup capable of doing damage throughout the order. Keeping runners off base, limiting hard contact and avoiding big innings will be critical if Texas hopes to steal the series opener on the road.
For Atlanta, Sale remains a difficult matchup because of his deceptive delivery, swing-and-miss ability and experience in high-leverage situations. The Rangers’ right-handed-heavy lineup is designed to counter that advantage, but Texas will still need disciplined at-bats to avoid chasing pitches out of the zone. Sale can be especially effective when he gets ahead early, so the Rangers’ hitters will need to be aggressive on pitches they can handle while staying patient enough to make him work.
Ezequiel Duran, pictured during a previous Texas Rangers game against the Houston Astros at Globe Life Field in Arlington, remains one of the players to watch in the Rangers lineup. His athleticism, defensive versatility and ability to produce at the plate give Texas an important piece in the lower half of the order. Against a pitcher like Sale, contributions from hitters such as Duran, Cauley, Diaz and Lopez could be the difference between a quiet night offensively and a much-needed road win.
The Rangers and Braves begin their post-All-Star break schedules with plenty on the line, as both teams look to establish momentum for the final months of the regular season. For Texas, opening the second half with a series win in Atlanta would be a strong statement. The first step comes Friday night, with Quantrill facing Sale in a 6:15 p.m. Central start.
