President Donald Trump declared Americans love both kinds of football now.Trump celebrated the USA’s fresh crush on soccer and traded compliments with FIFA President Gianni Infantino during a glowing reception on Friday in New York City, in honor of the 2026 World Cup coming to a close.“This guy, he came to me with this crazy idea [to host the World Cup]. I said ‘Are you crazy? We’re not a soccer country!’” Trump said after taking the microphone. “It turned out we were a soccer country, and I think it’s going to remain [one].”His remark follows the World Cup enjoying record ratings in the States. The USA-Belgium game averaged 33.09 million viewers between Fox and Telemundo earlier this month, and the England-Mexico game a day earlier set an American record with 44 million viewers across the two channels.Trump saluted Infantino for being a “great” leader and said the World Cup was “the most successful sporting event maybe in the history of the world.” The president added the event has been like “many Super Bowls” wrapped together.Infantino verbally patted Trump on the back a few minutes earlier, saying he never could have imagined the event going so well when he first talked to Trump about it in 2018. He said the Trump administration and the states that hosted matches created a “joyful environment” — one that resulted in the “greatest” world cup ever, he said. There were some other standout moments from the press conference, like Trump making fun of England for blowing its 1-0 lead to Argentina in the semifinal game on Wednesday. Trump said England played too timidly after taking an early lead.“We’ve got to be a little offensive, right?” Trump said.He added, “Look, what do I know about coaching? But that was a little unusual.”At other points, Trump complimented his son Barron Trump for being a great soccer player as a kid; Trump said his son had tremendous speed on the field. The president also thanked Infantino for making a “great decision” and reversing the controversial red card on striker Folarin Balogun before the USA-Belgium game. The president said the decision made it where there was “no controversy” when the USA lost.Friday’s event comes two days before Argentina will play Spain for the tournament title.Watch above via NewsNation. The post Trump Boasts USA Has Morphed Into a ‘Soccer Country’ During Glowing Event With FIFA Boss first appeared on Mediaite.
