Coastal Carolina celebrating the 90s by wearing awesome ‘Saved By The Bell’ style uniforms

One of the things that’s surprised me about getting old is how many people want to talk about the 1990s with fond nostalgia. Especially recently. The decade of Seinfeld and Starter team jackets is back in a big way—and not just with those who lived through it. It’s tough to know exactly when this happened but Friends gaining traction on Netflix feels like an inflection point looking back. Anyway, it doesn’t really matter why we’re all drifting back to the 90s. What matters is that it’s awesome. MORE: Arch Manning’s ‘god-awful’ mistake leaves Stephen A. And they nailed the uniforms. These are pure. That’s just what stuff looked like in the early part of the 90s. Let me be more specific. That’s how all cool stuff looked. You’d put on your hypercolor shirt just in time for the Saved By the Bell reruns and watch those until the big yellow bus came to pick you up. Then you might hear Color Me Badd on the radio. That’s right, the bus radio is where a lot of us found out about new music. It will have you so fired up you’ll want to bite into a stuff-crust pizza or run through a wall like the Kool-Aid Man, who put up huge numbers busting through stuff during this time period. Here are a few college football guys I remember from the time where people would wear stuff like this.Danny Wuerffel. Peter Warrick. Lawrence Phillips. Gino Toretta. Elvis Grbac. Just some solid names. Respectively they played for Steve Spurrier, Bobby Bowden, Tom Osborne and Dennis Erickson.MORE: James Madison accepts membership to new conferenceThey used to tie all the time. Games would just end in a tie. Or teams would have to decide to go for two instead of tying. And God help you if you wanted to keep track of all the scores. There would be a few studio updates and they’d run a crawl once or twice an hour but we simply did not know what was going on outside of the four or five games that were on television per week. Good times. Great uniforms. — Enjoy free coverage of the top news & trending stories with The Big Lead Newsletter —
