Arsenal have shown interest in signing Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa, according to The Guardian. Konsa could serve as cover for William Saliba, who faces a prolonged spell out after injuring his back in France’s semi-final defeat to Spain. Saliba had been managing a back issue for several months, but the problem worsened during that match, and he is now expected to be sidelined for around four to five months. This represents a major setback for Arsenal, who will begin the 2026-27 season without their first-choice centre-back. Manager Mikel Arteta has Cristhian Mosquera as a backup option, yet the club are also weighing up a potential move for Konsa.
The 28-year-old has proven himself in the Premier League, renowned for his composure under pressure, rapid recovery, and ability to play the ball out from the back. Since joining Villa in July 2019, Konsa has been a mainstay of their first team, making 286 appearances across all competitions and scoring 12 goals. He also showcased his quality on the world stage for England, starting six of England’s seven matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Konsa’s experience and versatility would make him a strong addition for Arsenal, though any move is likely to come with a hefty price tag. Villa recently sold Youri Tielemans to Manchester United, and with Konsa still under contract for two more years, Villa are not under immediate pressure to sell.
