Atlanta Braves draft LSU baseball signee in third round

By admin — In News — July 12, 2026

LSU baseball signee Jensen Hirschkorn was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the third round, with the 84th overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft on Saturday. The Braves assigned him a slot value of $973,000. Listed as the No. 56 prospect in MLB’s draft class, Hirschkorn hails from Kingsburg High School in Kingsburg, California. The right-hander combines a fastball that tops out at 97 mph with a slider and a changeup, and his seven-foot form—actually six-foot-seven—has kept him near the top of scouts’ watch lists.
Hirschkorn was the second LSU signee from the 2026 class to hear his name announced on Saturday. He joins Logan Schmidt, a left-handed pitcher also from California, as the Tigers’ early selections of the day. It’s possible that more LSU signees could follow as the draft extends into later rounds, with additional names being called before the weekend concludes.
Head coach Jay Johnson has already indicated an expectation that multiple signees will leave LSU to pursue professional opportunities. That reality comes with maintaining a roster that features several top-100 prospects, a common scenario when teams invest in picks they believe can sign and develop into major-league players. Given the strength of Hirschkorn’s profile, it’s likely he will be drafted away from LSU, meaning the purple and gold may not be the uniform he ultimately wears in the pros.
This report reflects coverage initially published by LSU Wire, highlighting the Braves’ selection of a standout LSU signee in the early rounds of the 2026 draft and the broader implications for LSU’s 2026 recruiting class as the event unfolds.
