Bold quarterback predictions for NFL Week 5: Matthew Stafford, Jalen Hurts & more

The quarterback gets the close-up, but the trouble usually starts somewhere outside the frame. A tackle loses his leverage. A linebacker follows the wrong movement.  A tight end finds the same opening for the ninth time.  NFL Sundays turn on those little failures, and Week 5 has some inviting places to look. This week’s calls follow three different problems. A defense struggling to cover behind its pass rush, an offense trying to function through upheaval along its line, and a secondary that keeps feeding opposing tight ends. Those weaknesses point toward a touchdown avalanche, a passing shutdown, and an afternoon of relentless short completions.Let’s follow the breakdowns.MORE:7 NFL teams with best chance to win Super Bowl LXI entering Week 5Matthew Stafford throws 5+ touchdown passes against the BillsNovember 9, 2025; Santa Clara, California, USA; Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (9) warms up before the game against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium. That gives Sean McVay a useful opening Monday night –  make defenders respect the run, then send Stafford hunting for the coverage mistake. Puka Nacua’s return expands the possibilities alongside Davante Adams, while throws to backs and tight ends can attack Buffalo’s struggling underneath. The Bills have surrendered 10 touchdown passes through four games. Stafford doesn’t need one receiver to spend the evening wearing a superhero cape. He needs the right matchup to keep changing. The Rams already got four touchdown passes from him on just 31 attempts against the Giants. His six interceptions this season also explain why this offense has left points behind. Greg Rousseau’s six sacks demand quick decisions, and Buffalo’s unsettled cornerback availability remains worth watching, as does Nacua’s status after his return. Assuming no new offensive setback, the pieces are there for McVay to finish drives with throws. Josh Allen can keep the Rams attacking deep into the night. This time, Stafford gets the touchdowns instead of watching the handoffs collect them.MORE:Predicting upsets in Week 5 of NFL seasonJalen Hurts finishes with fewer than 150 passing yards and zero touchdown passes against the JaguarsSep 20, 2026; Nashville, Tennessee, USA; Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (1) throws a pass against the Tennessee Titans during pre-game warmups at Nissan Stadium.
