Braydon Fisher Reveals His Father Passed Away

By admin — In News — July 8, 2026

Braydon Fisher, the relief pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays, disclosed the heartbreaking news that his father, Normand Fisher, died on Monday at the age of 65 after suffering a stroke. The Blue Jays placed Fisher on the bereavement list on July 6 while simultaneously activating George Springer from the family medical emergency list.
The bereavement designation came as Normand Fisher and a friend were traveling to San Francisco to watch the Blue Jays face the Giants when the tragedy occurred. Fisher explained that his return to the team was imminent but noted he would not be active until Friday of the weekend series in San Diego. “Braydon Fisher is back with the Blue Jays but won’t be active until SD on Friday. His father, Normand, died from a stroke Monday, at age 65. Norm and a friend were en route to SF to watch the series,” Fisher relayed through Blue Jays reporter Shi Davidi. In conversations with Blue Jays reporters ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Giants, Fisher reflected on his late father and shared some memories.
“He was an amazing person. There was never a bad day for Norm. He was always happy, always cheerful, willing to help anybody,” Fisher said. “I don’t think that for the last two years, you’d see him not wearing Blue Jays gear. Not ever. No matter the occasion.” The 25-year-old Texas native was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the fourth round of the 2018 MLB Draft and was traded to Toronto in June 2024 in exchange for Cavan Biggio. Fisher made his MLB debut with the Blue Jays in 2025, appearing in 52 games and posting a clean 2.70 ERA with 1.4 bWAR in his rookie season. He also contributed during the playoffs as the Blue Jays advanced deep into the World Series run. Through 43 games in 2026, Fisher has recorded a 3.33 ERA and 0.8 bWAR.
Fisher’s early life in Texas and his path to the major leagues are part of a story of perseverance. He grew up in a state known for producing pitchers and cultivated his skills through the minor leagues before breaking into the majors. His 2025 season marked a notable step forward, and his postseason appearances helped cement his role within Toronto’s bullpen. The 2026 campaign has shown continued involvement at the MLB level, with Fisher contributing as a trusted option out of the bullpen.
The baseball community extended its condolences to the Fisher family during this difficult period. Expressions of sympathy have highlighted Normand’s character—described by his son as someone who carried joy and generosity in every interaction—and many noted the importance of family during a demanding season of professional sports.
Our thoughts go out to Normand Fisher’s family and loved ones as they navigate this loss. The news of his passing was originally reported by Heavy, and the publication has since provided ongoing coverage of Braydon Fisher and the Blue Jays. For fans following the team, Fisher’s return to the field is anticipated with respect for the personal circumstances he has faced, and his teammates are expected to support him as he resumes his role in Toronto’s relief corps.
