St. Louis – The Milwaukee Brewers will attempt to clinch the series tonight as they meet the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 2 of a doubleheader at Busch Stadium on July 7. The Brewers will start left-hander Robert Gasser (1-3, 4.54), designated as the 27th man, while the Cardinals counter with right-hander Hunter Dobbin (1-0, 3.63). It’s been a hectic day for Milwaukee after they won the opener 4-3 behind a strong start from Jacob Misiorowski and a significant offensive performance from Christian Yelich. In another notable development, outfield prospect Luis Lara was recalled from Class AAA Nashville in the morning and is set to make his major league debut in Game 2.
To accommodate the roster move, outfielder Blake Perkins was optioned to Nashville, while infielder David Hamilton was placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring. In addition, infielder-outfielder Greg Jones was selected from Nashville. The day’s events also included a ceremonial note in Milwaukee, where an 80-by-100-foot mural honoring Brewers play-by-play announcer Bob Uecker was completed near the Wintrust Financial Center on Jackson Street; the celebration, including a tailgate-themed event, is planned for June 30 to mark the completion of “Mr. Baseball,” a mural by Mauricio Ramirez, with a toast featuring 500 cans of Miller Lite.
Milwaukee sits at 57-33 and holds first place in the National League Central. On the field, the Brewers will be looking to build on their momentum from Game 1. In the early action of the day’s slate, Robert Gasser, who has been used as a multi-inning option of late, will take the mound for Milwaukee. The Cardinals will rely on Dobbin, who has made a favorable impression in limited duty this season.
Looking ahead, the Brewers have scheduled additional matchups with the Cardinals in the coming days. For Thursday, July 8, at 6:45 p.m., Milwaukee’s Kyle Harrison (8-1, 2.82) will face St. Louis’ Andre Pallante (10-5, 3.60). The game will be televised on Brewers.TV and carried on AM-620 WTMJ radio. On Friday, July 9, at 6:45 p.m., Milwaukee plans to start an as-yet-undetermined pitcher against St. Louis’ Kyle Leahy (7-4, 3.86), with the broadcast again on Brewers.TV and radio on AM-620 WTMJ.
