Sometimes it is less about talent and more about fit or filling in for injured positions. Cleveland GM Andrew Berry has spent much of the summer looking for a veteran defensive end, having to settle for signing someone who hasn’t played a snap in the regular season yet.The Browns tight end position was added to the list of positions of interest over the last few days as a few came in for workouts, while another could depart to return to the college ranks. With Joe Royer still absent and Dae’quan Wright potentially heading back to Ole Miss, it was no surprise that the team signed TE Drew Biber on Thursday.Biber was signed by the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent after this year’s NFL draft. Mostly a blocking tight end, Biber caught 15 passes in four years with Purdue, then 18 last season with the Minnesota Golden Gophers. To make room for Biber, Cleveland placed TE Jack Stoll on injured reserve. Stoll was signed in free agency this year, with a history as a quality blocking tight end. The Browns did not disclose the injury that led Stoll to be placed on IR, nor when it occurred.
