Caitlin Clark etched her name in WNBA history Sunday night by fueling the Indiana Fever’s dominant victory over the Las Vegas Aces at Michelob Ultra Arena, a 109-75 blowout that underscored her rising influence in the league. In the process, Clark delivered her 600th career assist, reaching the milestone in just 72 games—fastest in WNBA history to achieve 600 assists. She finished the night with 12 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, shooting 5-for-11 from the floor. Clark’s historic helper came on a third-quarter outlet pass to Monique Billings, who converted the layup and earned a foul in the same play, cementing Clark’s record-breaking moment.
Despite the significance of reaching 600 assists so quickly, Clark remains far from the all-time assist leaderboard. Hall of Famer Sue Bird holds the record with 3,234 career assists and is the only player to surpass 3,000. Courtney Vandersloot sits second on the list with 2,909 assists, leaving Clark a long road ahead to chase such legendary totals.
Indiana wasted no time seizing control, opening up an 11-point lead by halftime thanks to a prolific first-half performance from Kelsey Mitchell. Mitchell scored 20 of her 27 points in the opening 20 minutes and delivered a standout closing salvo with a deep, contested 3 at the buzzer that kept the Fever ahead by double digits. The team did not trail in the first half, and Indiana limited Las Vegas to a 1-for-7 mark from beyond the arc.
The third quarter briefly reenergized the Aces, who began the period with a 7-0 run, but the Fever extinguished that momentum quickly. Indiana closed the third frame on a 17-5 stretch, pushing their lead to 16 and maintaining command the rest of the way, ultimately sealing the lopsided win.
A’ja Wilson led Las Vegas with 20 points and 12 rebounds, though that effort wasn’t enough to prevent a defeat that left the Aces at 17-7 on the season. Jackie Young contributed 15 points, the only other Aces player in double figures. On Indiana’s side, Aliyah Boston delivered 19 points and 11 rebounds, complementing Mitchell’s 27-point performance. Sophie Cunningham came off the bench to pour in 20 points, including six three-pointers, adding vital scoring depth for the Fever.
Clark entered the game averaging 20.5 points and a league-best 7.9 assists per game this season, a testament to her two-way impact. The game marked only her second appearance back from a lingering back injury that had sidelined her during a heated contest with the Phoenix Mercury late last month. In her return, Clark had nine points in a loss to the Aces on Wednesday, demonstrating she was rounding back into top form as Indiana looks to sustain momentum.
With the win, the Fever improved to 14-9 on the season, securing their fifth win in seven games and placing them fifth in the standings. Indiana now turns its attention to a quick turnaround, facing the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday as they continue their push toward the postseason. The victory highlighted Clark’s evolving role as a catalyst for the Fever’s success and signaled that Indiana is a legitimate threat in the league as the season progresses.
