MIAMI GARDENS ― Miami Dolphins rookie receiver Caleb Douglas dreams about throwing a 60-yard touchdown pass in the NFL.”To Malik Willis,” Douglas was saying this week, in the Dolphins locker room.Douglas caught two touchdowns from Willis in Miami’s Week 7 defeat of the Jets, including a 63-yarder.”Getting my boy back right,” Willis said of Douglas, who had missed three games with an ankle injury. “It was awesome.”Douglas explained that he played quarterback as a youngster and so he didn’t really focus on receiver play until later on. So, who did he grow to like?Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, Jameson Williams and Chris Olave, said Douglas, a third-rounder from Texas Tech who already looks like an outstanding draft pick.On the other side of the locker room, Dolphins cornerback Jason Marshall, Jr. was considering if Douglas could be fairly described as reminiscent of an NFL legend who once played the Patriots, Miami’s next opponent.”I grew up on watching YouTube and stuff, so I’ve seen the Randy Moss highlights,” Marshall said. “You know, Randy Moss is a Hall of Famer, so take some time to get to that level. But like I said, it’s a good comparison.”Moss was 6-foot-4, 210 pounds.Douglas is 6-foot-4, 208 pounds.Moss and Douglas are wiry and Moss was likely a bit faster. But what they may have in common ― time will tell how good Douglas can become ― is an ability to both separate with long strides and to lean on exceptional catch radius and body control.Does Caleb Douglas’ style remind you of Randy Moss?”He’s got so many traits, man,” Marshall said of Douglas. “He’s a shifty guy, being at 6’3, 6’4, the way that he moves, he’s elusive, got good range and speed. I mean, it’s so many traits that he have. I mean, yeah, and obviously you see it paid dividends on Sunday.”Entering Miami’s Week 8 game (vs. New England at Hard Rock Stadium, 4:25 p.m.), Douglas leads the team with 61.5 yards per game, despite only three games played. The Dolphins are 1-5. The Patriots are 4-3. The game is on CBS.Douglas is also the only Dolphins player with two receiving touchdowns (both last week) and the only NFL rookie with two touchdowns in the same game this season. After the Jets game in New Jersey, Douglas was able to keep both touchdown footballs. He says they’ve already been placed in display cases. He is also still reveling in the postgame waterworks celebration in the locker room.”It was like a movie,” Douglas recalled with a smile. It became pretty clear pretty quickly this summer that Douglas may be a third-round steal.Ironically, the pick was largely panned by NFL draft gurus. But general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan seems to know what he’s doing.”(Caleb’s) a really talented route runner, you know what I mean?” said Dolphins offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik. “I think that part of it comes natural to him, he’s got really good feet, he’s got a huge catch radius, his touchdowns. I mean his first touchdown (against the Jets) was pretty filthy route, you know what
