My Saturday falls on the Fourth of July. Two hundred fifty years ago, the founders signed the Declaration of Independence, marking the birth of the United States of America. In celebration of our country’s birthday, here are some fun facts about USC All-Americans.
USC football has produced 179 first-team All-Americans in its program history. The most recent Trojans to earn that honor were wide receiver Makai Lemon and safety Bishop Fitzgerald last season. USC’s first All-American was offensive guard Brice Taylor, back in 1925, and last year marked the 100th anniversary of Taylor’s All-American season.
Of the Trojans’ All-Americans, 86 have been Consensus All-Americans—selected as first-team All-Americans by at least three of the five major selectors. That places USC fifth among all schools, trailing only Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, and Alabama. Between 1962 and 1990, USC produced at least one first-team All-American in every season, and from 1972 through 1987, the Trojans had at least one Consensus All-American every year.
