Former Christian Brothers star and Mississippi State baseball signee Will Brick was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays with the 131st overall pick in the fourth round of the 2026 MLB draft on July 11. Brick earned the title of 2026 Gatorade Tennessee Baseball Player of the Year and was named the Commercial-Appeal All-Metro Player of the Year after his standout senior season. He played catcher and third base, batting .526 with nine doubles, three triples, five home runs, 25 RBIs, 28 runs, and an impressive 1.572 on-base plus slugging percentage. Brick’s performance also earned him a spot on the TSWA All-State team after he helped CBHS reach the Division II-AA state quarterfinals in the TSSAA playoffs.
Lipscomb Academy’s Eli Mast (10) is celebrated by teammates, including Mason Borders (25), after delivering a go-ahead hit to bring in a run during the Division II-AA quarterfinal series between Christian Brothers and Lipscomb Academy in Memphis on May 14, 2026. Lipscomb won the best-of-three series 2-1. Brick would have been a junior this season but reclassified to be eligible for this year’s draft. MLB.com ranks him as the No. 46 prospect in the draft and the top high school catcher.
Brick was one of two Memphis-area players to participate in the MLB Draft Combine in Phoenix, Arizona, from June 23-25, the other being Houston’s Collin Bland. He also represented the United States national team at the Under-18 World Cup in Japan in 2025, helping the squad secure the gold medal. Christian Brothers has produced 11 Major Leaguers in its history, including Tim McCarver, who enjoyed a two-decade career as a catcher with the St. Louis Cardinals and won two World Series titles. Brick now stands one step closer to joining that prestigious group.
He has until July 27 at 4 p.m. CT to decide whether to sign with the Blue Jays and accept a substantial signing bonus (the slot value for the 131st pick is $581,100) or to enroll at Mississippi State for the 2027 season. If Brick elects to attend college, he would not be eligible for the draft again until 2029. For those following the latest on Will Brick’s path to professional baseball, the decision looms large—whether to cash in now or chase another year of college development.
