Christian Eriksen: Latest update on former United star’s recovery

By admin — In News — July 10, 2026

Former Manchester United star Christian Eriksen’s playing career remains uncertain once again. The ex-Tottenham Hotspur midfielder collapsed on the pitch during a Euro 2020 match for Denmark after suffering a heart attack. Fortunately, he made a full recovery after receiving treatment and was fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), a type of pacemaker. The player returned to football in 2022, less than a year after the scare, turning out for Brentford. He then joined Manchester United in July 2022 and spent three seasons with the club before moving to Wolfsburg in Germany last year.
Tragically, Eriksen endured another alarming incident during Denmark’s friendly against Ukraine last month. The BBC reported that he collapsed during the match in Odense in June, with the game halted at 65 minutes and abandoned shortly afterward. The 34-year-old midfielder was able to walk off the field. Naturally, questions arose about whether he would be able to continue playing after this latest health scare, but indications suggest he remains as determined as ever.
VfL Wolfsburg released an official statement on their website detailing their plan for Eriksen. It read: “Christian Eriksen will soon begin an individual rehabilitation program. Following a discussion with VfL Wolfsburg managing director Dieter Hecking, it was decided that the 34-year-old will complete this in his native Denmark.” The statement added, “VfL is in regular contact with Christian and his doctors. We wish Christian all the best for his continued rehabilitation.”
Die Wölfe begin their season on 8 August against FC Kaiserslautern, and it remains to be seen whether Eriksen will participate in the match.
